Appointments:
Adjunct Professor, Department of Medicine, Dalhousie University
Affiliations:
Nova Scotia Cancer Care Program (NSCCP), Nova Scotia Health Authority, Dalhousie University
Research Interests:
Environmental health, spatial cancer epidemiology
Nathalie investigates the spatial and spatio-temporal dimensions of cancer-related outcomes within an environmental epidemiology framework. Her interests are in the application of innovative modeling approaches that account for real life complexities of health outcomes and the integration of these methods to produce results that inform public health and health policy. Recent research has included multidisciplinary studies of the risk of developing urinary tract cancer attributable to low-level arsenic exposure in Nova Scotia well drinking water, spanning the fields of epidemiology, health, physical geography and geospatial statistics. Nathalie’s research also focuses on developing and using socioeconomic deprivation indices as proxy measure to lifestyle choices such as smoking, an important risk factors in the development of several cancers. As a cancer epidemiologist at the NSCCP, Nathalie collaborates on projects relating to community-level inequality in cancer and cancer screening outcomes. Her long-term objectives include using small-area modeling to assess the joint distribution of cancers; how it plausibly relates to neighborhood socioeconomic profiling and the built environments and; how this knowledge could be used to inform cancer primary prevention strategies.
