The Beatrice Hunter Cancer Research Institute (BHCRI) is a Dalhousie University research institute(opens in new tab) advancing cancer research across Atlantic Canada.
Established in 2009, BHCRI brings together researchers, clinicians, trainees, patients, caregivers, and health care providers to foster collaboration, innovation, and research excellence across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador.
Our Vision: To be Atlantic Canada’s centre for research to prevent and eliminate cancer.
Our Mission: To facilitate and foster the best cancer research in Atlantic Canada, as an inclusive and collaborative community of patients, caregivers, learners, researchers, and health care providers that works together toward better cancer prevention, treatment, survivorship and cures.

SUPPORT RESEARCH
We provide competitive funding to advance innovative cancer research. BHCRI’s community includes more than 200 members from universities, hospitals, and research centres across Atlantic Canada.
BUILD CAPACITY
We support the next generation of Atlantic Canadian cancer researchers through training, mentorship, and opportunities to build research and leadership skills.
CONNECT & COLLABORATE
We bring together researchers, clinicians, trainees, institutions, and communities across Atlantic Canada to share ideas, build partnerships, and advance cancer research.

BHCRI is located in the ancestral, unceded and traditional lands of the Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet), Passamaquoddy, Beothuk, Inuit, and Innu peoples. These lands are now known as New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. These lands enable us to build meaningful connections across institutions and communities in Atlantic Canada, in pursuit of a stronger, more unified cancer research network. We are all Treaty people.
