Governance & Leadership
The Beatrice Hunter Cancer Research Institute (BHCRI) is a Dalhousie University research institute and part of the university’s network of centres and institutes, advancing collaborative cancer research across Atlantic Canada.
To support this broad and collaborative network, BHCRI is governed by an Executive Council that provides strategic guidance and advice to the Scientific Director and Institute staff, ensuring alignment with the Institute’s mandate.
The Council is responsible for:
- Assessing and advising the BHCRI Management Advisory Council (MAC) on the Institute’s financial stability
- Guidance on legal obligations, including liability matters
- Ensuring compliance with Dalhousie University policies and regulations
- Monitoring BHCRI’s progress in fulfilling its mandate and strategic plan
- Supporting representation from all four Atlantic provinces
| Management Advisory Council (MAC)
The Management Advisory Council (MAC) provides guidance and input to the Scientific Director and operational committees on the strategy and impact of Institute, with particular attention to ensuring equitable reach across the Atlantic region. MAC members also engage with external organizations to identify opportunities for research, funding, and growth, and support coordination and alignment across BHCRI activities.
