There is a significant emphasis on reducing inequalities in the cancer continuum from incidence to mortality in Canada. The refreshed Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control (2019-2029) and its action plans acknowledge variations in the risk of people getting cancer and strive to promote equity in cancer care for all Canadians. Building on my studies on inequalities in health and the recent availability of national administrative and linked administrative data, my cancer research program aims to provide a comprehensive picture of spatial/socioeconomic inequalities in cancer incidence, cancer mortality, treatment, and survival in Canada.

Why are you interested in your area of research? As a health economist, with further training in health administration and policy, and social epidemiology, I have a long-standing interest in how social determinants of health shape population health and health equity. My long-term research vision is to bring health equity to the forefront of decision-making by producing new consequentialist evidence that can inform policies and programs on how to reduce inequities in health and healthcare.
