Dr. Sweeney’s background is in environmental health and breast cancer. She has worked at Atlantic PATH since 2016 and leads the environmental and occupational health research streams. In collaboration with colleagues in the Faculties of Medicine and Computer Science at Dalhousie University, ongoing research focuses on arsenic speciation and metallomics in toenail samples to assess the association among prevalent and incident cancer cases and sex- and age-matched controls. This work has also been expanded to include machine-learning to develop data-driven environmental cancer risk assessment tools.
