Understanding how cannabinoids and their receptors regulate cancer progression and metastasis in various models

In my lab, we study how G protein coupled receptors, like cannabinoid or bitter taste receptors are involved in normal functions or disease states. Signaling from GPCRs is involved in many different therapies and our goal is to understand the effect of different drugs, like cannabinoids present in Cannabis, on various signaling pathways involved in cancer. We try to understand how different ligands induce different responses, and how this will influence disease progression. One of our goals is to identify new targets to help in cancer therapy including cancers that are resistant to chemotherapy.

What brought you to your current institution?

After postdoc, I got my first interview at Dalhousie University during my first visit in the Maritimes. Halifax seemed like a great place to work and raise my family and I’ve been here since then.
