Project Title:
Exploring the relationship between physical activity and sleep among cancer patients
Research Summary:
Insomnia is a prominent side effect among cancer patients. Insomnia not only impacts quality of life, but it also has a detrimental impact on overall well-being and can limit recovery. Physical activity, however, has been repeatedly shown to lower insomnia and lead to numerous other positive effects such as increased mood and well-being. Despite this, there is limited research exploring sleep and physical activity among individuals with cancer. Thus, better understanding how this relationship operates and how this information can be used to help cancer patients is of utmost importance. The goal of this project, then, is to utilize the Atlantic PATH data to examine the relationship between sleep and physical activity among cancer patients and to assess the negative and positive impact that each variable has. By completing this research, we will gain a better understanding of how to assist cancer patients and be able to allocate resources better.
