Lay Research Summary:
There is a growing body of evidence to support exercise as a beneficial intervention for cancer patients and survivors by improving physical functioning, reducing treatment-related side effects, and enhancing quality of life. Despite its positive impacts, rural cancer patients are particularly underserved in benefitting from exercise programs. My project will qualitatively describe healthcare professionals’ perspectives on what their perceived barriers and facilitators are for exercise program implementation in rural communities. This research will aim to provide valuable insights to design strategies for increasing access to exercise programming for rural cancer patients/survivors.
Career Aspirations:
I want to work in a clinical setting with patients. I also want to continue to nurture my passion for research throughout my career. Finally, I would like to lead in health policy as it pertains to implementation of innovation in healthcare (given my current work as a clinical research associate for a breast imaging artificial intelligence company).
