Supervisor: Dr Kensuke Hirasawa
Title of Presentation: Generation of Nanoparticles for Efficient Delivery of a MEK Inhibitor Across the Blood-brain Barrier
Summary: Nanoparticle (NP)-based therapies have several advantages over “naked” drug administration, including increased drug stability and preferential accumulation in tumors. Dr. Gang Zheng (UHN), is a world-leading scientist in the field of nanomedicine. He has developed an apolipoprotein E3 (ApoE3)- NP which can efficiently cross the blood-brain barrier low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-receptor-(LDLR)-mediated transcytosis. During the SAP I visited Dr. Zheng's lab and got trained on the development of these NPs. I also developed a new NP loaded with a MEK inhibitor using Dr. Zheng's platform.
