Dr. Marya Ahmed, MSc, PhD

Appointments:

Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry & Faculty of Sustainable Design and Engineering; BHCRI Assistant Scientific Director, PEI

Affiliations:

University of Prince Edward Island

Research Interests:

Biomaterials, Drug delivery, immunotherapy, drug resistant carcinoma, polymer peptide hybrids, nanoparticles, proteomics

The use of combination drugs to overcome aggressive, metastatic and resistant cancerous anomalies is a focus of leading cancer research today. The cocktail of chemotherapeutics generally involve simultaneous intake of multiple anticancer drugs by the patient with little or no-control on their stoichiometric and targeted delivery to the affected area. The research theme in Ahmed group focuses on the development of peptide-based nanocarriers for precise and targeted delivery of multiple drugs in cancer cells.

Involvement with BHCRI to date:

Served on BHCRI scientific review panels, was a member of the training committee, supervisor to CRTP trainees.
