Full Professor, College of Pharmacy, Cross-appointed to Department of Chemistry

Dalhousie University

Research Interests:

Natural products, carbohydrates, biological, organic and medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, enzyme catalysis, protein engineering

Approximately 50% of the current chemotherapeutics were discovered from natural sources (including plants, bacteria, fungi). Chemistry in the Jakeman group aims to discover and characterize new natural products from soil bacteria and the characterization of the enzyme catalysts responsible for natural products biosynthesis. Collaborators including the National Cancer Institute in the USA facilitate evaluation of our discovered compounds.

Involvement with BHCRI to date:

Dr. Jakeman is a BHCRI Senior Scientist and a supervisor for CRTP Trainees.
