BHCRI New Investigator Award Call for Applications

The Beatrice Hunter Cancer Research Institute New Investigator Awards competition is now open.

Note: BHCRI is dependent on the generosity of our funding partners. The recent Covid-19 pandemic has drastically limited the ability of charitable organizations to raise funds. As a result, BHCRI has limited capacity to support cancer researchers in the broad region.

Funding for 2021 New Investigator competition is provided by the Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation (DMRF) and the New Brunswick Health Research Foundation (NBHRF) as outlined below.

DMRF funds must be used to support researchers based at Dalhousie University. NBHRF funds are to support researchers based at institutions in New Brunswick. Therefore, for this New Investigator competition, only faculty members at Dalhousie or a New Brunswick-based institution are eligible to apply. BHCRI serves as the peer review mechanism for New Brunswick-based researchers. SRC recommendations will be forwarded to NBHRF and final funding decisions will be determined by NBHRF under their Establishment Grant program.

Applicants must be within the first five years of their initial academic appointment and be a member of BHCRI and eligible to hold grant funds. The New Investigator Awards will be for $25,000 per year for two years. As many as three grants per year will be offered with one each to basic, clinical and population researchers, with this last category very broadly defined.

The deadline for Letter of Intent submission is 4:00pm AST on Thursday, January 7, 2021. Full applications are due February 16, 2021, upon approval of LOI’s.
