My lab is interested in how processes that change DNA sequence are involved in the transformation of healthy cells to cancer.

Mechanisms of genome mutators involved in cancer

Maintaining the fidelity and integrity of genomic DNA is a biological rule. The exception occurs in the immune system where lymphocytes actively damage their genes in order to become more effective at an immune response.  While necessary for an optimal immune response, these processes can lead to cancer.  Our research is focused on understanding the mechanistic features of these genome-mutating processes, how they are regulated in cells and how they lead to transformation of healthy cells into tumors.
