Genetics and epigenetics of complex traits including colorectal cancer, osteoarthritis, and ageing.
Complex diseases such as colorectal cancer result from an interaction between an individual’s genetic make-up and environmental factors. Epigenetic factors could be a means through which evidence of environmental exposures is received and recorded by the genome. It may function as an interface between environmental factors and genetic factors in the development of colorectal cancer. My work focuses on identifying novel genetic and epigenetic markers for colorectal cancer and other complex diseases such as osteoarthritis using the state-of-art high throughput genotyping and epigenotyping technique and develops efficient predictive models for colorectal cancer.
