Research Interests:

cancer clinical trials in pediatric populations, de-centralized health services delivery

Tailoring cancer treatment to the needs of children and youth

Dr. Mark Bernstein works with the international Children’s Oncology Group and other research networks on clinical trials to determine optimal dosing and the most effective combinations of chemotherapy drugs for young people. He is also Chair of the Atlantic Provinces Pediatric Hematology Oncology Network (APPHON), which is developing a system to deliver care to children and adolescents with cancer and serious blood disorders as close to home as possible. In addition, he is Chair of the Management Committee of the Cancer in Young People in Canada registry, which is developing a uniform database for treatment and outcome surveillance for young people up to at least 19 and perhaps 24 years of age. The database will be useful for both clinical and research purposes.

Membership Status:

Dr. Bernstein is an Honorary Member and Senior Scientist of BHCRI, was the Chair of the BHCRI Working Group and has served as a member of a BHCRI Scientific Review Committee.
