Research Interests:

Developing and using zebrafish models of Childhood cancers and Leukemia in particular to study the disease and test potential new therapies; cancer genetics; hematopoiesis and specifically mast cell development

 

Fishing for answers to leukemia

Dr. Jason Berman’s diverse and highly collaborative research program has applied zebrafish to investigate transcriptional regulation of mast cells; develop personalized therapy for childhood leukemia; determine key transcription factors and microenvironmental cytokines in cancer metastasis; and model bone marrow failure syndromes and hereditary retinal disorders. Dr. Berman and his team are the first to identify a mast cell equivalent in the zebrafish. They are currently using zebrafish to model allergic, inflammatory and malignant mast cell diseases.

Dr. Berman is a BHCRI Senior Scientist, a past member of the CRTP Management Committee, a supervisor for CRTP trainees and holds The CCNS Peggy Davison Clinician Scientist Award administered through BHCRI.
