In 2017, BHCRI found it necessary to suspend the Summer Studentship competition. We are very pleased to reintroduce the program for 2018 with up to 8 awards offered in the amount of $5000 each for a 14-week term.

In addition to general funding for all areas of cancer research, the following funds are available:
• We are extremely grateful to Jeremy Ingham whose generous donation has created the Jeremy Ingham Cancer Research Trust through the IWK Foundation. The Jeremy Ingham Cancer Research Studentship award will support a top-ranked candidate with plans to pursue a career in cancer research. Applications for research into pediatric cancers are encouraged. For further information, please see the full article below. Jeremy’s generosity will allow this new award to be offered annually.
• The Daley Award through DMRF: Supporting advancements in normal and malignant lymphocytes, especially as related to chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
• The Nancy Kitchen Award: Supporting research, education, prevention and treatment of gynecological cancer in women and girls.
• The CCS Carol Ann Cole Comfort Heart Studentship Award for breast cancer research.
Funding for these awards has been made available from a variety of sources; however, the single largest source is the Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation (DMRF). The DMRF Board has stipulated that funds they generate may be used to fund up to half of the total amount awarded to non-Dalhousie affiliated researchers. The New Brunswick Health Research Foundation (NBHRF) has partnered with BHCRI to support New Brunswick cancer researchers, via matching funds, to a total maximum of $135,000.00 annually. For other successful applications, whenever possible BHCRI will make up the difference with non-DMRF generated funds, but presently this is a very limited resource. We therefore encourage those researchers not affiliated with Dalhousie or not located in New Brunswick to discuss this with their local university or provincial research funding agencies and encourage them to make matching funds available to potential BHCRI grant awardees.
